Other Issues Relating to Numbers(Counters) - Money, Counting Stuffs

There are different counters in Japanese language to use when counting different type of items. It is something similar to Chinese language which also uses different counters to count different type of items. The most less hassle language to count different type of items is English language because you can use the counter "piece" to refer to several items (e.g. tissue paper, paper, dress, artwork).

In Japanese language, the combination to form the Japanese word to count people and things is <Number> + <Counter>. Its the same format used in the Chinese and English languages.

At the end of this page, I will teach you a list of Japanese words for counting different type of items that has no specific counter by using a general counter if necessary. Do take note of this so that you will use the right counter(s) for each item.

How To Read/Write/Say Days, Months and Year

In this lesson, you will learn how to read/write/say the days of the week and months of a year in Japanese language! In 1 of the Japanese Lessons titled "How To Read/Write/Say Numbers", you should have learnt how to read/write/say numbers in Japanese. For reading/writing/saying month in Japanese language, the word is a combination of "number + month". For example: January is Ichi-gatsu(いち) where Ichi(いち) = 1 and gatsu(がつ) = month.

Year = nen ねん / 年

To read/write/say a certain year, just combine the year number in Japanese with Year (nen ねん / 年). For example: 2008 = nisen hachi nen (にせんはちねん / 二千八年) where nisen hachi(にせんはち / 二千八) = the number 2008 and nen(ねん / 年) is year.
